Split leather — the suede layer beneath the grain — at 1.2 mm, thin enough to cut with a sharp craft knife and a straight edge. Sold oversized on purpose. If you would rather we cut them to your measurements, that is a bespoke order: quoted through the enquiry form, and exempt from the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal.

Limits and behaviour

  • Heat and moisture. Water-repellent only for as long as it takes to wipe a splash away. Keep hot items and standing water off it; this is not a trivet and makes no insulating claim.
  • Colour transfer. A dark hide can mark a pale surface when warm or damp. Test a small hidden area first.
  • Natural variation. Grain, tone and healed marks differ between hides and the burnished edge is darker than the face. This is the material, not a fault.
  • Sensitive skin. Tanning agents can cause contact allergy in individual cases. We make no claim that this piece is allergen-free.

Care

Brush the nap with a soft dry brush. Do not wet split leather — it stains readily and does not recover. No balm on the suede face.
