Terms of sale

1 · Who you are contracting with

The seller is Jahn-Lederwaren GmbH, Dischingerweg 19, 72070 Tübingen, Germany, trading as Schreibfeld ("we", "us"). Contact details and the disclosures required by §5 DDG are on the Impressum page.

2 · Definitions

• Consumer — a natural person entering into the contract for purposes outside their trade, business or profession (§13 BGB).
• Entrepreneur — a person acting in the course of their trade, business or profession (§14 BGB).
• Stock size — an item listed on this site with fixed dimensions, cut in advance or in small runs to those dimensions.
• Bespoke cut — an item produced to measurements supplied by you. Quoted individually and excluded from the right of withdrawal.
• Full-grain, top-grain, split and reconstituted leather fibre — distinct materials, defined on the material notes page, named individually on every product page and never used interchangeably.

3 · How a contract is formed

The presentation of goods in this shop is not a binding offer. By completing the checkout you make a binding offer to buy the goods in your basket. We accept it either by a written order confirmation or by dispatching the goods. Until then no contract exists and you owe nothing.

Before submitting the order you see the full basket, the total including VAT, the delivery charge and the delivery time, and you can correct any entry using your browser's back navigation or by editing the basket. The contract language is English; German applies in parallel where a statutory text is quoted.

We store the contract text and send you the order details by email. For bespoke cuts, the contract is formed only when you accept our written quotation.

4 · Prices and VAT

• All prices are in EUR (€) and include German value added tax (inkl. MwSt) at the applicable rate.
• Delivery costs are shown separately next to every price and again in full before you submit the order (PAngV). See shipping and delivery.
• Prices range from 12,00 € to 339,00 €. The price that applies is the one shown at the moment you submit your order.
• Deliveries outside the EU may attract import duties and local taxes, which are payable by you to the authorities of the destination country and are not included in our prices.

5 · Payment

Payment is taken at the payment step, which follows the details step of checkout. Which payment methods are available to you is shown there. We never ask for card details on our own pages and we do not store card numbers. See payment and order process.

Goods remain our property until payment has been received in full (retention of title, §449 BGB).

6 · Delivery

We deliver to the zones listed on the shipping page, which also states delivery times per zone. Partial delivery is possible where it gets part of your order to you sooner, and it never costs you more than a single delivery charge.

Delivery times are estimates in working days from dispatch and are not guaranteed dates unless we have confirmed one in writing. Where an item is cut to order, the longer lead time is stated on its page and at checkout.

7 · Right of withdrawal

Consumers have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal, set out in full with the model form and the two lawful exceptions on the right of withdrawal page. Practical guidance on returns and refunds is on the returns and refunds page.

8 · Warranty for defects

Statutory warranty rights apply, running for two years from delivery for consumers. Natural variation in leather — grain, tone, healed marks, the darker burnished edge — and the stated ±3 mm cutting tolerance are characteristics of the material and not defects. Wear from ordinary use, damage from heat, standing water or unsuitable cleaning products, and colour transfer where the material notes warned of it, are not defects either.

9 · Promotions, discounts and reference prices

• Free shipping threshold. Free standard delivery within Germany on basket values from 120,00 € (inkl. MwSt), calculated after any discount and before any returned items. Other zones have their own thresholds, listed on the shipping page.
• First-order codes. Where issued, a first-order code is single-use, tied to one customer, not exchangeable for cash, cannot be combined with another code, and expires on the date stated when it is issued.
• Set pricing. Sets are priced below the sum of their parts. Where a former price is shown struck through, it is the genuine sum of those parts as listed on this site, not an invented reference price.
• No subscription. Everything here is a one-time purchase. There is no membership, no recurring charge, no stored balance and no loyalty scheme. The newsletter is free and can be cancelled from any letter.

10 · Product boundaries and export restrictions

• What we sell. Flat and hollow leather articles for desks and rooms. No bags, no wearable goods, and nothing electrical — no item on this site carries current, heats up or charges anything, so no CE marking obligation under the EMC or Low Voltage Directives arises.
• Animal origin. Cattle hide only, a by-product of the food industry. We do not sell fur, and we do not sell leather from any species listed under CITES. We cannot supply such goods on request.
• Chemicals. Materials are sourced against REACH Annex XVII restrictions, including the chromium VI limit of 3 mg/kg and the azo dye restrictions.
• Destinations. We ship to the zones listed on the shipping page. We do not ship to destinations subject to EU sanctions or export restrictions, and we may decline or cancel any order that would breach export control or sanctions law, refunding it in full.
• Age. Orders may be placed by adults. Minors may order only with the consent of a parent or guardian.

11 · Packaging obligations

Our packaging obligations under the Verpackungsgesetz (VerpackG) are registered in the LUCID register; the registration is stated in the Impressum.

12 · Liability

We are liable without limitation for damage arising from injury to life, body or health, for intent and gross negligence, under the Product Liability Act, and where we have given a guarantee. For slight negligence we are liable only for breach of a material contractual obligation — one whose fulfilment makes proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on which you may regularly rely — and then limited to the foreseeable damage typical of this type of contract. Any further liability is excluded. This does not reverse the burden of proof to your disadvantage.

13 · Intellectual property

All designs, photographs and texts on this site are our own or licensed to us. Our products carry no third-party brand marks, patterns or design elements, and we do not produce copies of other makers' protected designs, including on bespoke request.

14 · Dispute resolution and applicable law

German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. Where you are a consumer resident in another EU state, this choice does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence.

The European Commission's online dispute resolution platform is available at https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. We are neither obliged nor willing to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board under the VSBG.

15 · Severability

Should any provision of these terms be or become invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions is unaffected. The invalid provision is replaced by the applicable statutory rule.
